Student Outreach and Resource Program The SOAR program at Grace Christian School provides academic support and accomodations for students with documented learning differences. SOAR is designed to help students access the curriculum, demonstrate their knowledge, build confidence, strengthen independence, and develop self-advocacy skills while maintaining grade-level academic expectations. Please note that Grace Christian School does not develop or implement 504 Plans or IEP's, however, they are required for documentation in addition to a psychoeducational evaluation. Students who require academic or learning support are served through our SOAR program with these documents. SOAR support may include
  • Extended time
  • Read-aloud support
  • Preferential seating
  • Testing accomodations
  • Organizational support
  • Study skills support
  • Small-group or individual academic assistance
  • Additional individualized accomodations based on student needs and evaluation recommendations
Enrollment Requirements
To enroll in the SOAR program, families must provide: 1. A completed SOAR application 2. An in-person meeting with the parent and one meeting with the student present 3. A current psychoeducational evaluation completed within the last three years 4. The most recent 504 plan or IEP, if applicable 5. Previous report cards, quizzes, tests, classwork, or homework samples, if available During the in-person meeting, the student's current reading and math levels may be assessed to help determine appropriate supports. Psychoeducational Evaluation Requirement: A current psychoeducational evaluation is required for SOAR enrollment. If a student has a 504 plan or IEP, families should provide the most recent copy; however, a current psychoeducational evaluation is still required. Placement Consideration: Submission of a SOAR application and supporting documentation does not guarantee placement in the SOAR program. Each application is carefully reviewed, and meetings with the parent and student are required as part of the evaluation process. These meetings help determine whether Grace Christian School and the SOAR Program can appropriately meet the student's educational needs. Placement decisions are made on an individual basis and are dependent upon the student's needs , available resources, and the schools ability to provide appropriate support. Families who need assistance obtaining an evaluation may contact the SOAR Directors for recommended provider information. For questions about the SOAR Program, or to begin the enrollment process, please contact: Mrs. Jesenia Navarro SOAR Director (6-12th grade) jnavarro@gracechristianschool.com Mrs. Treva Johnson SOAR Director (1st-5th grade) tjohnson@gracechristianschool.com
